Poor little Casper hasn't been feeling very well since Friday he is not keen on eating at the moment :( the blood test results have only come back today and are being sent on to the specialist today, the xrays have already been sent on to the specialist already. I did wonder if he had kidney stones come back again which would explain his not feeling well at the moment but the vet says NO kidney stones which is just fab news :) he thinks he is just showing delayed stress from being at the vets all day on Thursday last week.

He could really do with some vibes being sent his way at the moment please. He will only eat if I hand feed him at the moment, I'm hoping I won't have to start syringe feeding him. had to go an buy a bag of muesli mix yesterday as he will only eat the flaked peas at the moment again, and his carrot cruncher treats.

Hoping to find out more about the test results soon.

Thanks Sue :D

Casper is still not good I'm afraid :( :-s :-s Was back at the vets with him this afternoon as I wasn't happy with his condition.
Finally my vet has all the results back and has spoken to the specialist John Chitty this morning. The xrays are about the same as the last ones, with regard to his lungs he still has the inflammation/scarring/infection which ever it is or could be all 3 I suppose. With regards to the blood tests for his kidney failure some things have improved calcium lower, and something else lower (can't remember what it was!) vet says this is due to the Fortekor tablets he is on for kidney failure, aparently it inceases blood flow to the kidneys, but something else the level is a bit higher to do with the kidney failure :( :(
Specalist has recommended he stay on antibiotics for the rest of his life, and has recommended Zithromax, so the vets have ordered me some which should be in tomorrow as they didn't have any in stock, and pain relief Metacam he says ultimately this may shorten his life as it can affect the kidneys, so I spoke to the vet about a different kind of pain relief and we're going to try a different one if they can find me some I can't remember what it was called though but apprently it has now been discontinued :( so the surgery are going to ring round all the local chemists and see if they can find me some, the vet has just put his cat on it and says it works really well, and there are no side affects in animals, if they find some I'll have to go get a prescription for it from the vets. Let you know what happens with this.
Vet offered to admit Casper but I said I wanted him at home, as he is very nervous and won't usually eat at the vets, so he gave him a vetergesic (pain relief) injection and 4 big syringes of subcute fluids to rehydrate him so I'm hoping this will make him feel better and start eating more.
As this week has gone on it has become more difficult to get him to eat anything :-( and I started syringe feeding him last night. He is to go back on the metaclopramide for a while too, so he is on quie a lot of medication for the time being.
I think the vet is trying to prepare me that he may not have much longer left as he mentioned several times today about 'for however much time he has left' I'm not really sure how long rabbits can survive with kidney failure. If anyone has any experience of kidney failure in rabbits I would be very interested.

Unfortunately Casper deteriated yesterday despite having fluids, and pain relief injection at the vets yesterday afternoon.

So I felt I had no option but to take him to the vets this morning and he had to have some help on his way over the rainbow bridge :( I am heartbroken =(( =(( even though he had been poorly for most of this year it's still so hard when it's their time, I know I have done the right thing I nor he could have carried on any longer. His breathing had worsened, he wouldn't eat on his own and he was in pain I know.

I will post a tribute to him later. He was such a brave little boy a real gentle mild mannered soul :x :x :x

I'm so sorry Sue, Casper was such a brave boy, I know how heartbroken you must feel, but you should take comfort knowing you did so much for him, and his time with you was special to you both x

Binky free Casper I hope you and Dodger get up to lots of mischief at the bridge x

Thinking of you and sending you hugs x
