Rose

Post by Foofy »

Here are a couple of pictures of a rose in my back garden, not bad for a plant that came from Pound land last year. It is growing in a pot.

That's gorgeous...and what a bargain :) Does it have a scent?
I love roses... I'll post some pics of mine later.. I have a deep pink one with a very strong scent and pale pink dog roses which although aren't that strong individually have a powerful scent as you walk by because there are so many of them.
sue :)

Though I have to admit when I saw the title I thought you had adopted another rabbit lol :))

This is my huge dog-rose pale pink rose bush which I struggle to support on it's stem as it's free standing in the middle of the garden by some benches. It was just a tiny thing a couple of feet high when I planted it and despite ruthless pruning it grows massively each year. The weight of the blooms pulls the branches down so I cut them regularly which is quite nice as I have vases of flowers in the house. The leaves got black spot many years ago but even that hasn't detered it.

The blooms are small and not that scented individually but the bush gives a lovely scent as you walk by.:)

I filled the house with many vases full of the flowers from it when it was my daughter's engagement party here too :)

This reddish rose is a climber in my front garden and has large heavy blooms and is quite scented

I like to take one for a single vase.:)

This deep pink one is beautiful, very highly scented and very very prickly!! It grows on the back wall and doesn't produce many blooms but the flower heads are large and dense petals. It has just started to bloom. My sister bought it many years ago for my birthday and it always blooms on my birthday which is so nice.:)

I have several of the dog-rose bushes around the front and back garden now too.
I love flowers but especially roses.

Yes I do. :) @};- Mostly they just eat the petals when fallen but sometimes I put a couple of whole flowers in their run. :) @};- @};-
I used to have a yellow rose which seems to have died off, and that was their favourite.
I also choose non prickly rose leaves to feed to the rabbits.

Of course humans can eat rose petals too, and I keep saying I must crystallise the petals but never do. @};- Here is the info for anyone interested?

My daughter used to make rosewater perfume when she was young though, @};- and the birds like to eat the rosehips in the Autumn.

Rosewater can also be used as a flavouring in cooking. @};- ~o)
it can be added to a bath to scent the water (as can the rose petals).

I know they used to make rosehip syrup for babies during the war so they got enough vitamin C but don't know how to make it and I guess it would have to be pretty sterile and clean to give to babies.

I also dry the rose petals to make pot pourri. @};-

I have also dried the rose petals to make framed collages. @};-
