Hello, it is Alice, from Windwhistle Warren.
We are lucky enough to have been one of PAP's rescues, I think, since it's inception. We are in West Gloucestershire, and, I have been running the rescue for 15 years now.
We are not a 'posh' rescue, but, we usually have at least 84 rabbits here waiting for their forever homes. I also rescue guinea pigs, because they have been a life long love of mine, and, my mother used to have guinea pigs.
It is rare I foster animals out. I am based in the middle of nowhere, and when people come here to adopt, they often travel quite a long way. So, all the furries get a chance of being chosen if they are here.
All our rabbits are neutered and vaccinated. I usually do the bonding here on neutral territory, and, I will be honest, running the rescue is a hard slog. As you can imagine, it is 7 days a week.
I have some lovely volunteers, without their help, it would not be possible.
Windwhistle has a non destruct policy which means, unless a bunny or piggy is suffering, we will try to cure or assist any medical problems. This can mean bunnies having a leg amputated, costly x Rays and nursing, as necessary. If the bunnies or piggies are not rehomed, they tend to stay here, as much as possible in their own des res shed with attached run.
We currently have a bunny booked in for a major abscess removed operation on Wed, the estimated bill is £250.
Last month, we paid £1,700 in vet bills. It was a particularly bad month. We use two vets. My usual vet, who are so accommodating and try to fit in around me as much as possible. And, we have a specialist vet, who we rely on when we are particularly concerned about a case.
I will try to keep up to date on here as much as possible. I appreciate all the hard work the PAP Team put in.
I do look after my elderly father as well, he has Alzheimer's and had a bad fall a few weeks ago. He has had two small falls today, so, it will be a long night!
But, I did want the PAP Team to know how appreciated they are.
