Rescue of the month - February

Post by Hunnybunny2007 »

This months rescue is RSPCA Walsall :)

Walsall RSPCA is a small, Independent registered charity (225671); we are not part of the National RSPCA. All money we spend on animals in our care has to be raised by us as a branch. Walsall RSPCA is run by a team of 8 trustees who meet on a regular basis to oversee branch activity. We have no paid members of staff; everyone at Walsall RSPCA is a volunteer. Many of our volunteers have full time jobs, and give up their time up to help care for animals that need our help. All the animals in our care are treated the same as our own pets, and they receive one to one care and lots of love and attention.

Most of our rabbits come to us either via RSPCA Inspectors, or as unwanted pets. The rabbits that come to us via Inspectors do so for all sorts of reasons, they could have been involved in cruelty/neglect cases, or as strays/abandonments.

All of our rabbits have 6x2x2ft hutches, with access to a 6x4x2ft runs. Our outdoor guinea pigs have 5x2x2ft hutches with access to 6x4x2ft runs, and indoor guinea pigs have 4x2x2ft cages. All rabbits are health checked by a vet, neutered, vaccinated with the combo vaccine and wormed before we try to find them their forever home. Our guinea pigs are all health checked by a vet, and we castrate all of our male guinea pigs. We believe both rabbits and guinea pigs need company of their own kind, so we only rehome them to be part of a pair, or in pairs. If a rabbit is adopted from us to live with adopters existing rabbit, we do offer help with bonding to ensure the rabbits are going to get on well.

At present we have 28 rabbits and 27 guinea pigs in our care (and 6 little mice!). We have a no put to sleep policy, if an animal is too poorly to be rehomed; they stay here in foster care with us and receive all necessary treatment. We have had rabbits in our care that have been with us years, yet still gone on to find their forever homes eventually. We do believe there is a special home out there for every animal.

We do have animals that ‘stick’ for one reason or another. One of our longest stay rabbits at the moment is Gracie. Gracie was part of the large Wakefield rescue back in July 2012. Gracie has had mild snuffles and has needed treatment (antibiotics) twice since arriving in our care. Gracie is a beautiful rabbit, we think she is around 18/24 months old. On arrival Gracie was petrified, however with lots of time from her foster carer she has blossomed into a friendly rabbit who craves human attention! Gracie will run over to you and beg to be fussed, she really is a joy to care for. We would love to find Gracie her forever home, she is a special girl who has been through so much.

We really do appreciate all your support. We are always looking for new volunteers to join our team.

Thank you for taking time to read about us, if you would like to know more please visit our website http://www.rspca-walsall.org.uk.

These are just a few rabbits available

Monty is a black and white mixed breed bunny that arrived at Walsall RSPCA from a property where he wasn't being cared for properly and breeding had gotten out of control. Monty’s exact age is unknown, however we estimate him to be around 2 years old. Due to very little handling and interaction Monty was a
very scared boy when he first arrived in foster care. He is still very nervous but he is improving daily and is now happy to sit on your lap for a cuddle and a fuss. We are looking to rehome Monty to a quiet, understanding home with a neutered female bunny for company.

Wilbur is an adorable 12/18 month old neutered male bunny that arrived at Walsall RSPCA as he was fighting with his brother. Wilbur has been rehomed once, but sadly he was aggressive to his new friend. We are looking to rehome Wilbur as a single house rabbit. Wilbur is adjusting to life indoors well, he uses his
litter tray and enjoys exploring his surroundings.
He enjoys human attenion and is happy for you to fuss him, if you have food or treats he is your best friend! Wilbur has been health checked
by a vet, neutered and vaccinated. Wilbur will need a home with lots of mental stimulation, and attention. Can you offer Wilbur the loving
home he deserves?

Gracie is a very pretty female bunny who came into care at Walsall RSPCA as her previous owner had too many pets. We
estimate Gracie to be around 18/24 months old. Gracie is an adorable, friendly rabbit. she loves human attention and is more than happy to be handled and have a cuddle. Gracie will come over to greet you when you go to her hutch, and will happily jump into your arms! Gracie would make a
wonderful addition to any family due to her placid nature. Gracie has been fully vaccinated, neutered and wormed, she is now ready to find her forever home. Gracie has had treatment for snuffles since being in our care, so we would consider rehoming her as a single house rabbit.
Do you have the forever home Gracie desperately needs?will need a home with lots of mental stimulation, and attention.
