THIS ENTRY IS ON BEHALF OF MARIAS ANIMAL SHELTER

We would like to enter Bear. Bear came in as a male from a local school but it turned out she was a female. They didn't know her age but guessed at 5 yrs and just said she was blind. As you can see from her eyes, there is a definite disease in the eyes and dear Bear should have been taken to the vets. She also had a head tilt, drooling and was deaf and skinny. Our vet took one look at her and said that she needed to be put to sleep. It is such a shame that the school had not been there for her in her time of need. I would like to enter Bear in memory of her :x

Baby Blue Bee Bunnies would like to nominate Bupa

⚠️⚠️WARNING - GRAPHIC PHOTOS & DETAILS

On the 8th of Feb we had a rabbit surrendered that is possibly the worst welfare case we have ever seen. The first thing we encountered was the smell. The smell of rotting flesh, necrosis and death hit us.

When we opened the carrier, we were almost sick. This poor bun couldn't hold himself up and his eyes were rolling. He was absolutely saturated all over in urine sludge and fecal matter. Riddled with fleas, and some dead maggots on him. His tiny limbs had buckled under the sheer obese weight of him, and they were black and infected. The skin was falling off. When we tilted him upright, sludge poured out of him.

His eyes held so much pain, torment and horror. Something we will never forget.

This is little Bupas story so far.

We rushed him immediately to the vets and he has been there since. We do not know if he will survive, his body has endured such extreme neglect. Please think of him, sweet brave boy. 🙏

♡It's been almost a week since the little soul was dropped off to us.

We drove 6 hours to 3 different vet practises including one of our exotic vets to get help for him and multiple opinions. Every vet who has seen him has all agreed that his awful condition is purely husbandry related. We've done x-rays, bloods, urine tests and a full workup. He really is going through so much. 💔

His dentals are so severe that he won't make it more than a few weeks without having a dental done, he also has a huge mass on his chest. All 4 paws are so severely infected, which is why he isn't moving around. He also has spondylosis from being in such cramped conditions.

Given how much health care he needs, we named him Bupa. 🫂

Bupa is not likely to make it, we are very prepared for that. He has endured so much and it's a miracle that he is alive. He is now back with us at the rescue and our hearts just break for him, he lies on his vet bed all day and doesn't move. He needs liquid feeding and is on strong pain meds and antibiotics twice daily. He has no muscle at all and can't hold himself up.

We are hoping he will gain strength and respond to the medication to allow him to go under general anaesthetic to have his teeth burred and mass removed, but at this stage we just don't know. We are doing our best for him and will give him every chance possible.

2 weeks on:

Bupa lifted his head and rested it on his carers knee. This sweet boy can't/won't move from his neck down yet, but this has given us a glimmer of a spark. He hasn't been responsive to anything so far, so this is a start. He has a softer look in his eye, a more content one. He has started tooth purring while being stroked. And the biggest progress of all - he has started to lift his ears up instead of them just lying flat back on his head. This shows that he is starting to want to engage in the environment and be able to use his ear muscles.

We know there is a personality in there, one which has been suppressed. We desperately hope we will get to see it. 💙

While his body is wasting away, we are trying to build him up some strength. He has been back to see the exotic vet this morning and is booked for dental surgery and a biopsy has been taken of the large mass on his neck. This is his final chance at a better life and to be able to move forward. The antibiotics have helped so far with the infection and his skin is starting to slowly heal. We will post photos in the comments as we know this can be extremely distressing. We did have to sadly shave all that was left of his coat but it has allowed us to treat and soothe the skin twice daily with ointment too.

We are desperately needing to fundraise for Bupas treatment. So far his bills are close to £1800 with his treatment,  tests and hopefully his surgery. Please donate, even £1 will help.

THIS ENTRY IS ON BEHALF OF WINDWHISTLE WARREN

Windwhistle would like to enter Bertie. He is 3 years old and a dental bunny.
Bertie was previously owned by a BRC (Britiash Rabbit Council) breeder who said he would only eat bread. He lived in a ‘box’ in a dark garage, no windows etc. Such a happy little soul, and he must have been in so much pain before his dental.

This month Beloved Rabbits would like to nominate Electra. This sweet girl found her way to us thanks to a member of the public who rescued rabbits from a neighbour neglect situation and reached out to us for help. Prior to this, multiple rabbits had been living in a makeshift set up outdoors in the cold without appropriate shelter, food or bedding, and having to share space with chickens which risked spreading disease. They had been largely left to their own devices and were, quite literally, breeding like rabbits. Electra, the mum, we know has had at least 4 litters in 4 months, which is horrific when you realise she's only around 1 year old herself.

Since being made aware of the situation, we've taken in 17 rabbits and they are currently receiving some much needed TLC in the rescue. Electra was very thin at first as you can imagine, but has gained weight now she's getting plenty of food, and we noticed her coat appeared dull and quite sparse, most likely due to her pulling her fur out while nesting. She's been through a massive amount already in her wee life, so it's no wonder that's taken its toll on her physically, but she's coped amazingly well and we look forward to seeing her blossom once she's weaned all her kits and been nursed back to full health.
