THIS ENTRY IS ON BEHALF OF MARIAS ANIMAL SHELTER

Can I put in Lily for this month please. Lily came in as a foster because her owner had been made homeless. We kept her for a few months in the hope the person found a suitable place, but in the end Lily was signed over to us. Lily had a lovely home but she seems quite depressed with us. We are treating her sore hocks, but at present, they are quite bad even though we are doing things correctly, so a vet trip might be coming soon for her.

Baby Blue Bee Bunnies would like to nominate Bertone.

Our gorgeous girl Bertone was surrendered back to us. Unfortunately she had been suffering with an severe problem with her ear, and this had been left untreated. We were very uncertain of her future as she was a very poorly bunny and a successful outcome was not guaranteed in any way.

However our sweet girl Bertone had her bulla osteotomy surgery (ear canal ablation). This is a huge surgery for a rabbit and has required multiple exotic vet visits in the lead up to ensure she gets the best treatment. Post op care is also invasive, with the rabbit being left with a hole at the side of their head for air flow and the wound needing flushed and cleaned many times daily, as well as lots of medication for weeks after.

Why did she need this? Bertone had severe ear disease and a huge ear base abscess which was causing her a whole host of pain and suffering. This is something that lop eared rabbits suffer with and it is vital that it is not ignored or left untreated. Without surgery, the face can become paralysed, the infection can spread into the inner ear leaving the rabbit with a head tilt. It really is life or death for the rabbit.

Our hope is now that Bertone will make a full recovery and go onto live a fantastic life with her friend and find a forever home. So far she has been an absolute trooper and has taken it all in her stride. We are so proud of this amazing girl. 🥲

As a non profit organisation, we have been hit extremely hard this month with huge vet bills we cannot sustain. If you would like to donate towards Bertones surgery please click the link: https://www.babybluebeebunnies.com/stor ... ation.html

Beloved Rabbits would like to nominate Bentley for rescue rabbit of the month. Unfortunately wee Bentley's story doesn't have a happy ending so this post is dedicated to him.

When Bentley entered the rescue, we booked him into the vet for a health check, where it was quickly identified that he had some dental issues. The vet thought it was likely a congenital issue with his back teeth, and as removal of the back teeth can be complicated and create more issues than it solves, we decided against this. We were advised that his teeth could be managed by 8 weekly dentals and happily we found an amazing home for him happy to commit to this.

Unfortunately however, he started losing weight and further investigation determined that the issues were more severe than we thought and his jaw was in fact totally misaligned. Advice at that point was that he would need dentals every fortnight to keep on top of the issues. It was also more clear than ever how bad his teeth were as they were visibly growing and curling inwards towards his mouth. The Management team discussed the situation and, after a lot of thought, made the incredibly difficult decision to euthanise Bentley so that he didn't have to suffer a poor quality of life.

It's always hard when we get these cases in but we have to put the welfare of the bunnies first even if it's not the decision we want to make. Rest in peace wee Bentley.
