Baby Blue Bee Bunnies Entry
This is our gorgeous Bohdana’s story:

This little toot was found dumped at the side of the road, a lady saw the bun trying to jump into a van and caught the bun.

This little bun was no older than 8 weeks old, absolutely TINY and overly trusting. We suspect either someone has just purchased them from a breeder and immediately dumped them or they were the last one in the litter not sold and the breeder dumped them.

This was their 1st Easter in this world and already dumped at the road side to die.

We have since had a big rollercoaster with 'them' over the last month. Sadly we were sure we would lose the little one. But they have shown their strength and resilience is in abundance.

Their initial ultrasound and bloods showed kidney disease and we also had serious fears of dental disease. A combination which sadly would have an inevitable fate. Bohdanas little eye was continually weeping due to dental spurs (unusual at such a young age) and their weight kept dropping daily to critical level.

Two weeks ago, they went to the vet, we assumed, for the final time. We expected them not to come home. This time however, the bloods showed the kidneys to be repairing themselves and the xray showed no dental disease, only overgrown molars. Bohdana went under GA for exploitative surgery and to have the spurs burred, at the same time they got neutered (much to our surprise!). The news from our vet team seemed good! We took them home and focused on getting their weight up and still baffled as to what had caused the initial kidney levels and severe weight loss. All was good so we thought

Then we then got a call to say that a second look at the recent xray and bloods showed infact what had been the problem. When Bohdana was dumped, there is a chance they were actually dumped. Like thrown out a car. The xray and bloods showed musculoskeletal damage along their back which had caused the muscle wastage, weight loss and kidneys to have been injured. An injury that could have been sustained had they been flung.

Bohdana is still on strict kennel rest and on pain relief and anti inflammatories until we see an improvement and healing and is enjoying lots of extra high calorie feed and cuddles. Now we know they will get better, we can really look to set them up for a good future. One we promise will be everything they deserve and more.

* Bohdanas vet bills are extremely high so far. If you would like to donate, you can donate on the home page of our website or purchase a raffle ticket for our current fundraiser *

ImageAngel, Zion and Dachs

I thought I’d enter an oldies group, as these guys just sum up what Hopper Haven is all about- elderly, disabled and wonky.

Angel and Zion were born 2007 and joined us 2014. Both were quite fiesty little beans in their earlier days, but have mellowed with age, and are now such old sweeties.
Angel is now struggling with her back legs and Zion recently had a dramatic head tilt, but thankfully with meds and care they are both comfortable and still happy to come out into their enclosure every day.
Dachs is a really sweet old rex who came to us 2018.
He was bought into the Blue Cross with horrendous sore feet after being found soaking wet in a car Park by a local Aldi. I was on duty that day and I immediately got him into Louise’s care at HH, as he wasn’t rehomable and needed the right maintenance plan for life to manage his feet. We called him Dachs so that we wouldn’t forget he was found by a German supermarket .

These are our eldest group in the sanctuary.

THIS ENTRY IS ON BEHALF OF MARIAS ANIMAL SHELTER

Leggy came in with his mum and sister because the person who previously bred them could not cope with Leggy's deformed front feet. We had to give him physiotherapy 4 times daily. It was quite hard to do because he use to wriggly as much as he could to get away. We carried on doing this for a number of weeks before a Rodentologist came to our rescue and said she would take him and carry on with his treatment. We are hoping that the physio will work, if not he may need an operation to correct them.

This month Beloved Rabbits would like to nominate Chewy for rescue rabbit. Poor Chewy was in a bit of a state when she entered the rescue as she was quite overweight and had matted fur under her tail, and in addition to this her owner advised that she had a history of blocked tear ducts and that they suspected she was deaf. Unfortunately this was only the start of her journey - her foster carer suspected she was in pain and booked her in to see a specialist vet for a health check, where it was discovered that she was suffering from severe neck pain due to abscesses in both ears from impacted wax.

She was immediately booked in for an op to drain the abscesses a few days later and the vet also inserted stomas that, once healed, will allow the wax to fall out of them - essentially giving her a permanent hole in her head beneath each ear to prevent the issue from ever happening again. We are glad to report that she is healing really well after going through all that, and the vet staff were amazed at how quickly she came round and started eating and drinking post op. Before and after photos taken on the day of surgery and six days after showing how well she's doing.

Thanks to her fantastic foster carer and vet team Chewy will be able to go on and live a happy life in a forever home once she's fully recovered, and we can't wait to match her to her perfect family!

The Pledge a Pound Team have now chosen the winner of the Rescue Rabbit/Guinea Pig of the month for June and it's Angel, Zion and Dachs from Hopper Haven. A very dificult decision this time with 5 entries.

Our oldies will be delighted to have won this months Rabbit of the Month❤️ but such a hard choice with so many sad entries.

All of us in rescue are working so hard to improve the lives of these poor souls that have been so badly let down by people, so in reality all the entries are winners as they all get their second chance they so deserve❤️
