We are now opening up this thread for entries for the April Rescue Rabbit/Guinea Pig of the Month.

All our Rescues are welcome to enter, even if you have won before. Your entry must include the animal/s story and at least 1 photo (but more is good ;) ), you have until midnight on 31st March to get your entries in here. Entries can only be accepted from the Rescues/Sanctuaries that Pledge a Pound supports, and must be placed as a reply to this thread.

Only one entry per Rescue please.

Your entry can be a single rabbit or guinea pig, or it can be a pair or group that live together.

The winner will be chosen by the Pledge a Pound Team at the beginning of April.

The winner will receive a prize of items to be sent to the Rescue such as Panacur, Fibreplex, critical care, etc and similar things that all rabbit/guinea pig Rescues use/need. The prize for April will be 2 sachets of recovery food, 1 tube of Panacur and 1 packet of Burns Meadow Mix.

THIS ENTRY IS ON BEHALF OF MARIAS ANIMAL SHELTER

Sugar came to us with her friend Cinnamon. Sugar felt very hot to the touch and was nearly bald. We took a hair sample and found that she was riddled with Sarcoptic mange. We started treatment and very soon saw an improvement. sugar is booked into the vets next week because she is still hot to touch and although a good weight, feels bony. We suspect that she has ovarian cysts as well.

THIS ENTRY IS ON BEHALF OF WINDWHISTLE WARREN

Windwhistle would like to enter Ivy, she has a pseudomona. Sadly, she needs to be rehomed as a single house bunny. Ivy is full of life, precious little girl.

This month Beloved Rabbits would like to nominate Lottie for rescue rabbit of the month. This lovely girl entered the rescue a week ago after her previous owners sadly lost interest, and we immediately noticed a bump on her jaw line indicating a potential dental issue. Her owner also reported she wasn't eating much hay which also concerned us.

On vet advice we started her on metacam, and booked her in for a vet check where it was soon confirmed that her teeth were stepped and mis-shapen, and she was booked in for a dental X-ray. Unfortunately, the X-ray showed that the roots of her teeth were embedded in the jaw line and the vet said they were the worst she had seen in some time.

We were advised that to have any chance of solving the issue basically all her teeth would have to be removed, and as they were embedded in the jaw this would likely lead to more complications, so the kindest thing would be to let Lottie go under general anaesthetic.

Poor Lottie was just over a year old and one of many bunnies who come into us in poor condition - while we wish we could have helped her recover and go on to a new home, we're at least glad she had the opportunity to be loved and show some of her sweet personality in her foster home before she passed.

Thank you very much for choosing Sugar. Sugar had her ovarian cyst drained, which was what was causing the heat and hair loss along her sides. We have been feeding her up and she is booked to be spayed, so that should solve her cyst problem. At present, Sugar's mites have gone but there could possible be eggs under her skin. :) :-*
