We are now opening up this thread for entries for the March Rescue Rabbit/Guinea Pig of the Month.

All our Rescues are welcome to enter, even if you have won before. Your entry must include the animal/s story and at least 1 photo (but more is good ;) ), you have until midnight on 28th February to get your entries in here. Entries can only be accepted from the Rescues/Sanctuaries that Pledge a Pound supports, and must be placed as a reply to this thread.

Only one entry per Rescue please.

Your entry can be a single rabbit or guinea pig, or it can be a pair or group that live together.

The winner will be chosen by the Pledge a Pound Team at the beginning of March.

The winner will receive a prize of items to be sent to the Rescue such as Panacur, Fibreplex, critical care, etc and similar things that all rabbit/guinea pig Rescues use/need. THIS ENTRY IS ON BEHALF OF MARIAS ANIMAL SHELTER

We would like to enter Toffee for the Rescue Rabbit of the month.
Toffee came into the shelter approximately 10 years ago. Toffee is now an elderly 17 year old bunny, who is doing so well. He was never wanted. Nobody ever asked about him when he was up for adoption because he is so shy of people. Nowadays he has daily pain medicine for arthritis and is in heart failure but that is not affecting him at the moment, infact Toffee has done a turn around and sometimes hops over to us for a treat. I hope he has many years left with us. It is a shame we don't have proof of his age because he must be nearly one of the oldest rabbits going.

We’d like to enter Mini Hero is a 5 month old mini rex. He is a product of an unwanted litter from two mis-sexed rabbits, his owners decided to keep two themselves but sadly Hero and his brother started fighting.
Hero was signed over to us yesterday and sadly had severe injuries to his genitals so is currently being operated on by our vet

We have a very unusual case this month with Darla who recently entered the rescue - on arrival, we could see she had a large lump on her back and was underweight, so we arranged a vet check for her ASAP for a suspected abscess. The initial consultation showed the lump was filled with clear fluid, so not an abscess, and the vet suggested it may be a very rare tapeworm migration from the gut which can sometimes cause this type of cyst.

She was keen to do an exploration to find out what was happening, so the next day Darla had surgery and the vet saw the biggest tapeworm bubble she had ever seen - she said she had only seen it in a textbook and would probably never see anything like it in her career again!

Thankfully for poor Darla, it was successfully drained and cleaned, and she was given tapeworm medication along with a 28 day course of Panacur. The vet was happy with her wound at her most recent health check, and we expect her to make a complete recovery. Once she's back to full health, we'll take care of any routine treatment she needs and match her to an adoptive home with a new bunny buddy.

Apologies for the photo in advance for this one, it's not for the faint hearted!
