We are now opening up this thread for entries for the November Rescue Rabbit/Guinea Pig of the Month.
All our Rescues are welcome to enter, even if you have won before. Your entry must include the animal/s story and at least 1 photo (but more is good ), you have until midnight on 31st October to get your entries in here. Entries can only be accepted from the Rescues/Sanctuaries that Pledge a Pound supports, and must be placed as a reply to this thread.
Only one entry per Rescue please.
Your entry can be a single rabbit or guinea pig, or it can be a pair or group that live together.
The winner will be chosen by the Pledge a Pound Team at the beginning of November.
The winner will receive a prize of items to be sent to the Rescue such as Panacur, Fibreplex, critical care, etc and similar things that all rabbit/guinea pig Rescues use/need. The prize for November is 1 tube of Panacur, 3 sachets of Science Selective Recovery Food, and 1 packet of Burns Meadow Mix.

Marias Animal Shelter would like to enter Mable please. Mabel came in with a group of guinea pigs. All have had problems apart from 1. Mabel was in such a state. Old wounds and 1 that ran from 1 side of her shoulder over her back and down the other She was extremely sensitive to be touched and too much would cause her to fit. We looked under the microscope and found she had mites, which I think is the reason for her wounds. They were driving her crazy. Mabel had to be bandaged so she could not open new wounds with her constant scratching. At present she is much better but still cannot tolerate much touching. She no longer fits but there is still a long way to go with her. We have to assist feeding her to maintain her weight but have ruled out internal fungal, which some of the others have got.
This is the sad story of Bertie who lost his bonded companion and was given up to Baby Blue Bee Bunnies to find a new buddy and home. Bertie has severe dental disease due to a poor diet which is now non reversible and sadly this means at the young age of 3 we just don't know how long he has left. The vets have given him a bad prognosis but we aren't willing to say goodbye to him yet. He has already lost some of his teeth and needs regular dentals done, it will be a decline until he gets jaw abscesses and infection in the bone.
This month Beloved Rabbits would like to nominate Yoko, our wild at heart bunny who was part of an accidental litter with one of her parents being a wild rabbit. She entered the rescue with her buddy Lennon, and the two had a very close bond, so when he suddenly passed away our volunteer team were worried about how she'd cope. Her foster carer has been working hard to make sure she gets lots of TLC and Yoko has become more comfortable with her, but due to her wild side she'll never be a people bunny, so we are now seeking a special home for her with an adopter who understands her personality and need for space. In addition to this, she'll need to have a fully enclosed, secure set up, so plenty to explore and stimulation for her is a must. It will be a challenge for our adoptions team to find a home to meet her specific needs, but we're confident the right home is out there for her!

Thank you very much for choosing Mabel. The mites are unfortunately sarcoptic mites, so she will have an ongoing problem with them. Hopefully we will keep them under control. xx
