We are now opening up this thread for entries for the April Rescue Rabbit/Guinea Pig of the Month.

All our Rescues are welcome to enter, even if you have won before. Your entry must include the animal/s story and at least 1 photo (but more is good ), you have until midnight on 31st March to get your entries in here. Entries can only be accepted from the Rescues/Sanctuaries that Pledge a Pound supports, and must be placed as a reply to this thread.

Only one entry per Rescue please.

Your entry can be a single rabbit or guinea pig, or it can be a pair or group that live together.

The winner will be chosen by the Pledge a Pound Team at the beginning of April.

The winner will receive a prize of items to be sent to the Rescue such as Panacur, Fibreplex, critical care, etc and similar things that all rabbit/guinea pig Rescues use/need. The prize for April is 1 tube of Panacur and 1 tube of Fibreplex.

A bit different to the usual nominees, but I’d like to put forward Nutbrown.

Nutbrown passed away this week at the grand old age of nearly 14, surrounded by all his friends who had looked after him so well in his old age.
He was always kept centre of the bunny pile, always had a fried to wash him and clean his eyes, and they all sat respectfully with him hours after he passed.

Nutbrown was the sort of rabbit we became a sanctuary for. Unrehomeable, unhandleable and a strong distaste for humans. he had been with us since2006 and will be sadly missed.

Windwhistle bun of the month is Squidge, we were told he was 6 years old. But, we think he is older. He came into rescue with a curved incisor, so, recently underwent a dental. He had work done on his back teeth and was due to have the incisors removed. Unfortunately the curved one was also curved in his gum, and, it snapped. So, Squidge has to go through another operation, which will have to wait until we are out of lockdown. We really hope he is going to be ok

Moonstone entered the rescue last month, with her bonded partner Jasper. Her owner had been struggling to manage her sore hocks, which were amongst the worst we’ve seen. The pain meant that Moonstone often chose to sit with her feet off the ground in a very unnatural position. She was clearly very uncomfortable and in need of help.

We tried a technique called ‘Donated Socks’, involving fur gathered from other bunnies to create a natural padding held in place by Vetrap. We also ensured her foster carers provided an environment that was dry with lots of soft flooring. Her sore hocks were bathed daily, she was given painkillers for the first week and had steroid cream applied every day.

Like most bunnies, she was very naughty and kept removing the ‘donated socks’, however the soft padding in her environment and treatment made a big difference.

We’re delighted to report progress is being made and the sore hocks have been healing well. It will be a long journey for her until they are fully healed and she’ll be well enough to put her heel down, but we’ll keep making her as comfortable as possible and hope to see a big difference soon.
