We are now opening up this thread for entries for the March Rescue Rabbit/Guinea Pig of the Month.

All our Rescues are welcome to enter, even if you have won before. Your entry must include the animal/s story and at least 1 photo (but more is good ), you have until midnight on 29th February to get your entries in here. Entries can only be accepted from the Rescues/Sanctuaries that Pledge a Pound supports, and must be placed as a reply to this thread.

Only one entry per Rescue please.

Your entry can be a single rabbit or guinea pig, or it can be a pair or group that live together.

The winner will be chosen by the Pledge a Pound Team at the beginning of March.

The winner will receive a prize of items to be sent to the Rescue such as Panacur, Fibreplex, critical care, etc and similar things that all rabbit/guinea pig Rescues use/need. The prize for March is 1 tube of Panacur and 1 tube of Fibreplex.

We welcomed Amber into the rescue a couple of weeks ago after her owner brought her to us for a bonding session. Upon arrival, we immediately noticed she had severe matting around her back end, she was stained in her own urine which smelled strongly and had caused loss of hair above her tail, and there were significant signs of urine scald too.

Her owner was new to rabbit ownership after rescuing her from an abandoned flat, and was mortified that she was in such a poor state of health and they didn’t know the signs to look for. She had been neutered and vaccinated at their local vet only a couple of months earlier, and nothing was picked up, so we knew this was likely a recent thing.

While she wasn't thin at just under 3kg, our body condition assessment indicated that she had lost a considerable amount of weight recently. The combination of symptoms could suggest various issues, potentially a parasite like EC, so of course we abandoned the bonding session, and after a long chat with her owner about the level of care required to get her healthy, they asked if we would take her on as they felt it would be in her best interests.

Since then, we have started a course of treatment and Amber has been living with her foster mum who has reported that she's settling in well, has a great appetite and is a star at taking her Panacur and Fibreplex! She has a long way to go yet, but the comparison picture shows how far she's come in such a short space of time, and we're hopeful that she'll continue to make a speedy recovery.

This entry is on behalf of Windwhistle Warren Rescue, they are having a few technical difficulties and haven't been able to post on the forum.

Florence, the black bunny, and Teddy originally came into rescue about 3 years ago. They have been returned as, apparently, Teddy is aggressive. We have not seen any signs of aggression. His adopter is off on expensive overseas holidays. Probably the real reason they returned. Both had mite and not in very good condition. They are now 3 years 8 months. Florence will need viscous tears in her one eye twice a day for life. And, Vaseline where her eye gets salty. It is so sad when you think a bun leaves the rescue to a forever home, only to be returned in a poor condition. These buns will now need a very special home, and being large buns it makes it even more harder.
