Gerry came into the shelter with several more guinea pigs at the beginning of the year. Two other pigs looked similar to gerry with large open wounds on them. Their skin was so itchy they were scratching into their open wounds, which caused them to have fits. All were put onto opioids for the pain and had to have body bandages to stop them scratching. The pigs had mange mites and fungal and were very thin. Although they are now in a better condition it is still an ongoing problem. The treatment gets them to a certain point but as soon as the medicine stops the itching starts. They have been treated internal and external for fungal. We are looking to do some more tests to see which fungal they have and to try a different medicine in the hope of a 100% cure.

Hi everyone,

Binky Buns' Rabbit of the Month, for June 2019, comes in the form of our newest recruit, Freddie.

Freddie was initually surrendered to another rescue and then made his way to us. Freddie was surrendered with a whole host of health problems, including two types of eye infection, an eye ulcer, a cataract, and gut stasis. He had also been fed an inadequate diet and had no proper toileting facilities. Although we don't know Freddie's exact age, we know that he is aged 8+ so we were incredibly worried about him, especially with his health being not so great. After an assessment with our wonderful rabbit vet, he was prescribed aggressive treatments for both his eyes and guts. We're happy to report that this strong and mighty little fella has done incredibly well - No longer are his eyes angry and sore, but are now a beautiful light pink, and his tummy issues are controlled. Freddie is due his final vet check up this coming weekend so we're keeping everything crossed, paws and all.

Due to Freddie's health requirements and age, he will spend the rest of his time with Binky Buns. This little man has had too much upheaval in his life and we just want things to remain stable for him. He's currently living with one of our trustees, and has a bunny sistfur named Alice (who our Pledge A Pound username is named after) who is showing him all the ropes of being a spoiled house bunny. We're happy to say that he now has a diet of unlimited quality hay, high fibre pellets and is partial to parsley, dill and basil. He also has two personalised feeding bowls and the biggest hay litter box he could ever need. He is learning that head rubs are lovely and what it's like to be able to sleep soundly and stress free.

Freddie, we love you little man. You're important and you do matter @};-

Archie and his brother, Harold, were signed over to our vets. They were non neutered bucks. Their owner had started a new job and could not care for them so were taken in by a lady, who unfortunately did not know the fights and damage that non neutered bucks could get into. They had inflicted terrible injuries on each other. Archie’s inner sac in his testicle was hanging out. He must have been in considerable pain. He has been now neutered, had some complications, but now is on the road to recovery. Harold had a very nasty cyst under his chin, which has now been removed and is also recovering. We are now hoping these 2 single fellas will be able to find lovely girl buns to love them.

Thank you ever so much for choosing our Freddie as rescue bun of the month. We're overjoyed for him as he's been through so much, as well as currently recovering from a bout of GI stasis and an eye ulcer. Thanks again @};- x
