Post by Foofy »

As we will shortly be announcing the winner of the Rescue Rabbit/Guinea Pig of the month for October see the thread here
http://www.pledgeapound.net/forum/viewt ... f=4&t=6898

we are now opening up this thread for entries for the November Rescue Rabbit/Guinea Pig of the Month.

All our Rescues are welcome to enter, even if you have won before. Your entry must include the animal/s story and at least 1 photo (but more is good), you have until midnight on 31st Otober to get your entries in here. Entries can only be accepted from the Rescues/Sanctuaries that Pledge a Pound supports, and must be placed as a reply to this thread.

Only one entry per Rescue please.

Your entry can be a single rabbit or guinea pig, or it can be a pair or group that live together.

The winner will be chosen by the Pledge a Pound Team at the beginning of November.

The winner will receive a prize of items to be sent to the Rescue such as Panacur, Fibreplex, critical care, etc and similar things that all rabbit/guinea pig Rescues use/need. This months prize will be 1 tube of Panacur and 1 packet of Critical Care Fine Grind :)

If anyone needs help uploading photos to the forum please let me know.

We would like to enter little Hobby Honeypig
He arrived with 7 other small boars and 3 adult boars from a backyard breeder who "wanted rid" of these males :(
All the little ones are thin and show signs of ringworm
So here is the little man himself, like all the others he will be treated for the fungal infection and when well and big enough he will be neutered before homing

We would like to nominate a little girl, Bay who we rescued this month.

The owner approached us to help take an "extremely aggressive rabbit" off her that was "attacking her children"..... (she's a tiny mini lop)

The owner had gotten her and thought it would be fun to breed her with her friends male rabbit. Sadly she had complications and had to have an emergency C section and lost all her babies. The vet didn't then think to spay her :( She then became severely "aggressive".

When we arrived to rescue her she was confined to an 80cm cage with nothing but shavings. When we got her back to the rescue and gave her a full health check her nails were extremely long and curled, she was obese in weight, covered in mites and her bum was filthy. She is nothing but a scared and hormonal little soul and is now on the road to a fresh start. ImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Six year old Dougie came to us a week ago as his owners could no longer keep him. We were told he was healthy apart from having had his incisors removed, sadly this is far from the case. His owners were advised that he could not keep himself clean due to having no front teeth, they were advised to bath him. Sadly Dougie was covered in sores from urine scald and his skin was cracked and painful as well as having mites.
Upon examination by our exotics vet it was found that Dougie needed not only his newly regrown front teeth but also several badly misaligned molars and also a remaining incisor root that had not been fully removed.

He's a great lad, hugely active, eats well and is always happy to see everyone. Hopefully once he has dental surgery his mouth will be more comfortable too.

When Benji, the Dutch and his hunbun Ebony came to Windwhistle, he was the worst neglect case our local RSPCA had seen. As the RSPCA in our area tend to move animals on to another RSPCA rescue if the animals have not been rehomed in enough time. The lady fostering who were fostering this pair was in her 80’s, and she could not cope with the idea of them moving to a rescue who was not particularly interested in rabbits. So Benji and Ebony came to Windwindle, as she trusted us to do our absolute best. Unfortunately Benji is still not 100% healthy, and we are still not sure exactly what is wrong with him. Luckily he has EBony to look after him. These friendly little buns have now been at Windwhistle for 18 months, and we really hope that although they are now 5 that some one will be able to give the an extra special furever home.

THIS ENTRY IS ON BEHALF TAMESIDE RABBIT RESCUE

It was brought to our attention (Tameside Rescue) that an injured rabbit was being given away on preloved. She was advertised as a little 10 week old who had broken her leg, and not received any vet care. Although we have high vet bills ourself, we decided to help as this little rabbit needed treatment. At 8pm the same night, the newly renamed Hope was collected. Unfortunately her injury was more than a broken leg. Hope was paralysed, her back legs were behind her and was covered in wee – she was extremely smelly. She was dragging her back legs around a small cage which her owner said she had fallen out of 2 days prior.
Hope came home and saw the vet early the next morning who gave medication for any pain and said to reassess her situation after a week. Good news is that Hope is very agile on her front legs and runs around . She has gained some movement in her back legs and now reacts to pain. Exercises are done with hope to encourage movement. She needs daily bum baths to ensure she is clean and dry.
Hope is a bundle of fun, who tries to binky and run. She doesn’t let not being able to move her back legs properly stop her from exploring and getting into mischief. We are hoping that she will improve given time and treatment.

Here she is
