A hutch is not enough-dont give rabbits as a gift

Post by sdf76 »

To anyone new forum members or visitors- please never give a rabbit as a gift as Christmas or any other time.

Rabbits can live for 10 years, and need a large amount of space, and must be cared for by an adult. Please take a look at this RWAF video " A hutch is not enough" before you consider a rabbit as a pet ? :)

Please never give a rabbit or rabbits to someone else as a gift. :(

Our Rescues are always overflowing with unwanted rabbits at this time of year. :(

If you are an adult who feels they can give a loving home to a pair of rabbits for the next 10years ( yes- they do often live that long and more) please see all the rabbits in our Rabbits in Need section and contact one of our Rescues, :)

Having recently seen that rescues are still taking in rabbits that have been given as a gift...please never do this without thorough checks?
Please find out all about rabbits, and check with the person to whom you would like to give a gift, that a pair of rabbits is not only what they want, but what they are able to care of for the next 10 years?.
Please make sure that they also have full information about how to care for rabbits, and if a child check that the parent is willing to take on the care and cost of the rabbits too?( as per the Animal Welfare Act an adult must be responsible for care).
Please consider getting the rabbits from a rescue where you will get good information.

please.?..never give a rabbit as a surprise. :( The surprise is likely to be that they don't want your gift or give it away soon after.
