Re: Casper is poorly, looks like EC :-( UPDATE

Post by Foofy »

Casper's latest blood results came back last Friday and the kidney levels were high again :( the lab that tested them recommended we have a urine sample sent to them for testing (kidney function, and EC) so yesterday he went into the vets for the day and they took the urine sample. So now it's just a waiting game again for the results. The vet has mentioned him being on Panacur long term 3 months on and 1 month off type of thing if it's found to be EC in the kidneys.

The vet recommended I stop giving him Metacam as one of the side affects of it is it can affect kidneys :( so he has now stopped having it last dose on Friday morning, and so far so good was very worried he would stop eating everything, but although he still won't eat pellets (he will eat the occasional one, I saw him eat 1 this morning) he is eating greens, grass, herbs etc he is still chopping and changing his mind every day on what he fancies to eat! some days he prefers grass, but not today! He is behaving a little more normally and doesn't seem to be in any great discomfort at present and his uveitis has NOT come back thank goodness and head tilt completely gone.

I was talking to the practice owner vet the other day about him and he said it could even be something simple like he just didn't feel the same after coming off all the meds, as it was about 5 days after coming off the steroid eye drops for the uveitis that he was first poorly and not eating, the vet said although the steroid drops were put in his eyes they actually travel all around his body and act as a pain killer, & anti-inflammatory maybe he was hooked on steroids as he was on them for about 3 months in total :)) :))

I'm just hoping he carries on eating greens till the urine test results come back, in the meantime he is still on ranitidine 3 times a day, and metoclopramide twice a day :( just so wish I knew what was wrong with him!

1st part of Caspers urine test results are back and they are not too bad :) now awaiting the EC bit back, as the other bit wasn't that bad the vet and I now suspect he must have EC in his kidneys :( but we'll see, if he has, he has to go back on Panacur and the vet says he would have to be on it long term :(

The good news is that his eating is getting better and better and he's eating more pellets and everything else I give him at the moment :D :D :D
