Binky Buns Updates 2023

Post by alicesadventures »

We are very pleased to have started 2023 and it was a lovely beginning to be given the fab donation by Pledge a Pound. We also got to celebrate Chinese New Year and it's the year of the rabbit so we hope that is a good omen. With our Chinese New Year fundraiser and the PaP money we have been able to pay for 2 neuters and have a little bit left over for supplies.

In January we have been sorting out accommodation for two elderbun arrivals in February so watch this space. We've been busy at the vets and looking after more and more rabbits and piggies with disabilities. They are all very precious to us and deserve the very best we can give them.

Sending our thanks and appreciation to you all

February has sadly been a month where we have lost a few of our sanctuary bunnies - Daryl, Jilly and Mavis have all hopped to the Rainbow Bridge and we will miss them greatly.

We have taken in two 9 year old bunnies, Harry and Dot. Harry is a very sweet little lad. Dot is a shy girl and majorly obese. Once we examined we also discovered a severe dirty bottom, a prolapse and a mammary mass which we are investigating. We will do our best for her.

Our Valentine's auction raised over £200 which has been a real blessing for us as we've had lots of vet trips.

We and the animals are all looking forward to Spring and paws crossed a little bit of sunshine. As always thank you to everyone who helps us - it is very much appreciated.

Spring is finally here although March has had feet of snow for us to deal with!

We've had lots of vet trips and a dash of bonding to keep us busy. Our interstitial cystitis guinea pig, Beau, has seen a new veterinary practice for a second opinion and we think he has taken a turn for the better so paws crossed. Dot is continuing to have investigations for her tumour.

We are inundated with requests to take in animals and every week the rabbit crisis situation seems to feel bigger and bigger.

On a plus note our Easter raffle has begun and our supporters are showing their usual kindness.

Wishing you all a Hoppy Easter from Binky Buns!

We've almost finished April. After a very successful Easter Raffle, Alice's Adventures in Bunderland is now running a Coronation promotion for us with Alice's grandhuman having sewn lots of felt bunny decorations.

Elderbun Millie has become a bit of a cougar and has fallen in love with young bun Keith. It's a bit of a mismatch but we are all very happy for the new couple.

We are looking for a home for a gorgeous 1 year old Rex who is very lonely but hasn't had much luck with romance. If anyone is interested, please get in touch

This month we have been helping members of the public with sick animals, lost animals and all sorts of issues. We send grateful thanks to you for helping us make this service possible.

May has been busy month. We had rabbits in a bad condition sadly left on our doorstep so even though we're full we couldn't turn them away. We've found a home for Albus the Rex and we've got involved in a sad story rehoming two rabbits for one of our terminally ill supporters. At Binky Buns we love rabbits and guinea pigs but we're also here to help the humans attached to them. Helping this poor lady give up her bunnies to a new life because she was passing away with cancer was both a beautiful privilege and an awful tragedy.

On a positive note, our resident sanctuary crew are all enjoying the sunshine which finally arrived in the North East. Unfortunately grass is a trigger for interstitial cystitis piggy, Beau, so even though he looks at it longingly we are keeping him firmly away. The others are all popcorning and binkying with delight with the grass now under their paws.

As always thank you to every single person who helps us. We wouldn't be here without you!

We've celebrated RAW this month and been very pleased to help a few struggling people with the neutering of their rabbits. Preventing the unwanted breeding of more bunnies is very close to our hearts and it's been a privilege to promote neutering this June.

We have been doing lots of active palliative care with one of our sanctuary bunnies who has cancer and we've also had to book in one of our sanctuary elderpiggies with the vet because we think she is developing dental issues. We'll let you know how they get on.

We are hoping to start our wave of summer in-person fundraising this month and have car boots and stalls booked. If you see us at any event, please do come and say hello.

A big thank-you as always to you all for helping us make a difference.

Very sadly we said goodbye to elderbun, Dot, this month. She fought bravely in her cancer battle but, in the end, we knew we had to do the kindest thing and let her go. Harry is a lonely boy without her but he is elderly and frail himself so we are trying to decide whether going for another bond is the right way forward.

Olive, the piggy, has had a fractured tooth so has been to the vet for examination. We are all hoping that this will grow back in correctly without dental surgery.

We are fundraising at car boots and outdoor events at the moment so we are praying for better weather than we've been getting lately. We are not sure where the sun has hopped off to but we hope it returns so the animals (and the humans) can all have lie about on the grass.

Thank you to everyone who supports us with donations, animal care and all the less glamorous things it takes to run a rescue - we wouldn't be here without you. And we are very sorry that we haven't attached any photos. We can't seem to get any to upload to the forum.

August has been a very strange summer month for us with most of the rabbits almost swimming at times in all the rain.

We've been out fundraising at carboots and fairs like (the appropriately named) The Hoppings.

Very sadly guinea pig Beau passed away despite our best efforts at various vets. He left behind a very lonely Margaret but we've have managed to wave her off to a lovely new home with another bereaved piggy.

Lots of bunnies have been for their vaccinations and we are pleased with the progress of some of our elderly animals who are managed with pain relief and treatments.

Thank you to everyone who helps us. You're all amazing!

September has been a whirlwind month. Our brilliant Autumn auction was a rolling success and we attended carboot sales with our banner and a weird and wonderful variety of bric a brac.

Guinea Pig Awareness week was a time of celebrating all things piggy and putting out the important message about their welfare needs

We have been bonding some owned bunnies who were finding romance a little difficult and we've been nursing little piggy Harry who has had bladder issues. Very sadly we also lost our elderbun (also called Harry). He was 10 years old and had been very bereaved since his bonded love Dot passed away a couple of months ago. We are glad they will be together again at the Rainbow Bridge.

Thank you as always to everyone who helps us in any way at all.

October has been another busy month. We've had some very kind people doing fundraising stalls as well as trying to find some bunny superstars for our new venture of a 2024 calendar.

Poor piggy Harry has been poorly so he's been on courses of antibiotics and pain relief and elderpig Olive had one of her front incisors break off but thankfully she has grown it back. We're fostering bunnies from a domestic abuse situation but we're hoping that their owner will be able to welcome them home again with some help and support.

Since the bad weather hit the country we've been moving some of the animals around into warm winter digs - our wellies will never be the same again.

See you all next month
