Marias Animal Shelter May 2022 update

Post by MariasAnimalShelter »

Last month carried on the same as in previous months. The number of calls doesn't seem to get any less. We are, however seeing a rise in the number of evictions and people with financial problems.
There was approximately 21 incoming animal and 16 adoptions.

Last month we were working hard to get all the jobs done plus extras. There are so many windows to wash and doors to paint. Fundraising has started but we are struggling to get enough volunteers to assist us. Our lovely handyman made us a few raised beds, so fingers crossed we can grow some edible plants for the animals to eat. The animal record database has not been updated recently, so not sure of the figures for rehoming.

Re: Marias Animal Shelter JULY 2022 update

Post by MariasAnimalShelter »

July was a bit of a worry regarding the weather. It wasn't just the heat but also the change of weather from extreme heat to the next day becoming cold. The guinea pigs are ok because we have aircon in the rooms but the rabbit adoption block can get extremely hot. We had cold, wet towels on the floor for them to sit on, which some did use. There were also 4 large fans on with frozen bottles attached to the gates to cool the room but it still felt very hot. Luckily all the rabbits were ok. I am so pleased the heat did not last too long.
Last month we had 15 intakes and 12 adoptions. The waiting list, however is increasing but there is nothing we can do about it apart from hope that we get more people wanting to adopt.

Busy month as usual. There have been 29 new animals admitted but only 17 animals adopted. Adoptions have really slowed now so hoping that this will change soon. Thankfully the weather has broken and we have some rain, phew. :)

There are over 100 animals waiting to come in now. It is sad that we probably won't be able to help half of these. I have seen an increase in pregnant animals and with people with mental health issues. This month we had 7 come in and 12 adoptions.

Unfortunately we have no positive news but still trying to hang in there to stay afloat. There have been 28 incoming animals and 21 adoptions but we are so short of volunteers, it is a big struggle and very stressful to all of us to keep going. We have stopped any more people being added to the waiting list now because it went over the 100 mark.

Due to a staff member leaving us and still short of volunteers, we are not taking in many animals until after Christmas. Hopefully by then we will have managed to replace our employee and gained more volunteers.
Number of animals incoming for November was 7 and adoptions 15

You did well to rehome more than you took in. :)
I do hope you find more volunteers in 2023 :)

January seems to have passed in a bit of a blur. We have been so busy just keeping up with it all. There are less volunteers now. I'm guessing due to the high cost of living but it puts a lot of pressure on everyone else. There was 25 new animals in and 7 adoptions in January. Hopefully the interest in adoptions will increase next month. :)
