Halfpenny March update.

Post by Halfpenny »

We’ve had a bit of an unexpected surprises after taking in some guinea pigs due to the death of their owner. A month into having them, 2 popped out babies. This was a bit if a shock, we are not used to babies here and other than our doves hatching chicks in the stable, we’ve never had babies born here in the 20 years we’ve lived here!
They are 3 weeks old now so separated, 5 boys and 2 girls, and the mums have recovered fully. We are hoping there are no more, none of the other 4 look pregnant.
Nougat, one of our older guinea pigs has developed a pyometra so she is undergoing treatment and doing very well, fingers crossed.
We are being inundated to take in, mainly, guinea pigs, which is very worrying. Every week we have to turn them away as we are full. We need to be very careful not to take in more as prices increase and donations drop off. It’s hard but something we have to do to ensure the protection of those here, of course, we will help where we can, but there are so many animals being Rehomed.
