Beloved Rabbits December Update

Post by fb_x »

Apologies our 2021 update has been delayed due to volunteer illness, however we are delighted to report that in 2021 we were able to take in 250 surrendered rabbits, and we saw 252 hop off to their forever homes!

In November's update we talked about being part of the Gannett Foundation's Cash for Charities grant award, and we have since found out that we received 5.88 per cent of the vote share, totalling £1,175.66 (+£200 for the subscriptions sold), which as a comparatively small charity we are really pleased with. We have also received our donation from Pets At Home following the Winter Fundraising Campaign, giving us a total of £5,944.60 which is absolutely fantastic! In 2022 we plan to further develop our Fundraising strategy with a view to securing much needed funds to support the bunnies in our care.

We also wanted to share the story of Lewis Capaldi, who has been with us for a year. He was surrendered by his owner in January 2021 after she had a change in circumstances and found herself unable to give him the level of care he needed, and at first he was very timid and it took him a while to find his feet in foster care. With some time and patience, his confidence came on so much that we thought he would be a perfect candidate for the Owsla, our resident group of rabbits, and we decided to include him in the bond.

Unfortunately, we noticed that over time his confidence levels amongst the other rabbits was dipping, and he was being chased by various members of the group. We also noticed minor bite and scratch wounds which, whilst not uncommon during bonding, were continuing to appear for a longer period than we'd expect, so we decided to remove him from the group for his own welfare and make him available for adoption.

He was then reserved for adoption but before going to his new home, his foster carer noticed a white patch in his eye, which at first appeared to be an ulcer. He was prescribed eye drops and antibiotics, but at his check up the eye had deteriorated, and it was determined that the issue was likely glaucoma and on the vet's recommendation we have agreed for his eye to be removed. Sadly, this means we've had to cancel his reservation until he is fighting fit and ready for adoption, but we are hopeful that he'll make a speedy recovery from the op and that he'll finally find his perfect home. I've included a couple of photos of him and will keep you posted on his progress!

As always thank you to Pledge a Pound for your kind donations for our rescue bunnies and your ongoing support.
