Halfpenny update.

Post by Halfpenny »

Sorry for another late update, it’s been a bit of a slog with winter setting in. We’ve been plodding along as usual, not really able to take in more animals at the moment as we are full. I’ve massively dropped my hours at the vet as Mike now has his pension and we can live off it. We had an awful time during Storm Arwen, we had 3 trees blown over, one onto a duck run, one is leaning on the house and one was on the electricity line to our house. The later meant we didn’t get mains power for 8 days. We bought a small generator to run water ( we are on well water so rely on a pump), run the Rayburn and heat the terrapins, guinea pigs and tortoise/ hamster room. After 2 days it broke down because we overloaded, we sent out an appeal and got a small replacement. We then got a slightly bigger one on loan and a company then offered to give us a big one which could run all the heaters for the animals. We couldn’t use things like the washing machine, kettle or microwave but we could live with that. We did receive many donations and offers of help, which was lovely.
This has meant we are way behind getting our birds undercover for bird flu and we have a huge clean up operation.
