Halfpenny June update.

Post by Halfpenny »

It’s been another busy month and we have been inundated with requests to take animals. Sadly we had to turn away 6 guinea pigs, 11 rabbits, a cat, a dog and a horse.
We took in 2 female ferrets who were dumped in a terrible state, either they have been left too long in season or they have adrenal disease. We have given them them both an implant which should treat both issues. Its very hard if you don’t know the history as to whether they were spayed or not. They are called Jolly and Squiffy and once settled will join Tipsy, our other female.
We also took in a wild rabbit who was ‘rescued’ as a baby from a cat. The owner is now moving a year later, and sent a picture. It was being kept in one of the rabbit cages and the floor was nothing but droppings. We are trying to avoid taking in more small animals at the moment due to time, space and finances but we decided this was an emergency. Thankfully we did take the rabbit as her grandson stated, if we hadn’t taken it he would have fed it to his ferrets. I have left it to settle until i get it sexed. Of course it hadn’t been to see a vet, so isn’t neutered or vaccinated!
We have also taken in a blind lamb who will hopefully join our sheep. She’s a little sweetie called Morag. We have also ageeed to another 6 pet sheep in need of a home, but we are pretty much at full capacity, so we cannot take on any more unless an absolute life or death situation!
