August Update

Like many rescues, since the lockdown restrictions have eased the interest in adoption has been very slow as people are making plans to go away on holiday rather than take on a new pet. We are pleased to say that things have started to pick up a little over the last couple of weeks. It was a difficult end of the month with three members of the team away, leaving me here alone most days. Hence the lateness of the monthly update. We are still trying to get the paving finished ready to start our new builds next spring, I'm hoping to be finished by the end of October and enjoy a few months of light duties. We currently have one bun out on trial bonding and had the news that Ty is now happily settled in his new home. We are hoping that adoptions continue to pick up during September and we can start making a dent in our waiting list.

September

We've been pulling out all the stops to finish off work on our infrastructure before we completely loose the dry weather and winter weather sets in. The last of the 300+ paving slabs have now been laid and a start made on cementing in around the edges. We've almost finished the new pen for two of our sanctuary rabbits and work in the rodent cabin is almost complete. I am hoping to be finished with those jobs by the end of the week and with a week of sunshine forecast next week, I hope to get the rest of the cementing finished off. I am utterly exhausted and looking forward to a break from heavy labour, until we start the rest of the building work next year. Bonnie has successfully bonded, Luna and Blossom two little rats and Buzz and Woody the guinea pigs have all left us for wonderful new homes, with 4 rats and 1 rabbit joining us. Harri and Lillith also left us.

We've got a number of rabbits waiting to come in, but we've been a unit down, while waiting on getting a replacement back up and I've got two new sanctuary buns to bond. Let's hope I'll have achieved this by the end of October!

October Update

I'm super happy to say that we have officially finished the work on the centre for this year. Over 300 paving slabs laid, the edges all cemented in and a large storage shed now in place. We've really struggled with storage over the years and with our rabbit housing due to increase next year we had to have something in place. Vinnie and Penguin's new pen is also finished and the boys have moved in, along with some caging changes in our rodent cabin. It's been a very busy summer and I'm utterly exhausted from all the manual labour.

Adoptions have really slowed down which is very disappointing, especially as the winter chuck out has begun in force. Really hoping that things pick up in November.

November update

Sorry for being a little late we had a number of animals in as part of a welfare case on 1st December and one bun was in a very bad way.

November has been deathly quiet again. No interest at all in adoption but it brought a whole host of animals urgently needing help. We are now bursting at the seems and have even had to buy additional hutches to make space for 2 rabbits. We've had to close our waiting list and cannot even handle another emergency case.

It's been an incredibly stressful month and December isn't looking much better. I know everyone is under extreme pressure at the moment, this job is never easy but it's incredibly hard at the moment.

December review

We are still at maximum capacity of all animals with only 2 guinea pigs going to a new home but an additional 11 guinea pigs (plus 4 babies born on the 23rd) arriving.
Currently it's a real struggle with so many animals needing neutering and vaccinations.
We have also completely closed the waiting list for new surrenders which is never a situation you want to be in!

We have everything crossed for an easier 2022 but we shall see!
