RSPCA Walsall Update

Post by Becky »

Hiya all,

Thank you so much for your continued support to our branch, we really do appreciate all the hard work the PaP team put into fundraising, and also how kind everyone is for donating to/supporting PaP. Without donations, we wouldn't be able to help all the animals we help.

For those of you who don't know, RSPCA Walsall branch is a separate registered charity to the National RSPCA. We are an entirely voluntary run branch and don't have an animal centre. Our rabbits and other animals are all cared for in foster homes. All of the money we spend on the animals in our care has to be raised by us as a branch.

During 2018 we rehomed 343 animals, 184 of these were rabbits. This is an amazing number of animals to have helped with us being such a small team. We are so lucky that our foster carers are so dedicated to caring for the rabbits. Many of our foster carers have been with us for a long time and over the years they have gained alot of knowledge.

At any one time we have between 30-50 rabbits in our care, although of course this does vary depending on if we have mums and babies etc. We have recently taken in 10 bunnies. 6 of these were a cruelty case via an Inspector and the other 4 were removed from a home by an Inspector.

We look forward to sharing regular updates with you all x

January was a slow month for rabbit rehoming :( We found homes for 6 of our rabbits. The best news in January was we found a forever home for Pluto, one of our longer stay bunnies.

February so far has been really busy! We offer bonding for rabbits if a member of the public is adopting a rabbit to go with their existing rabbit. This month myself and one of our other volunteers have constantly had bunnies in for bonding! We've just bonded a quad for a very loyal supporter of ours, she adopted 3 of our lucky bunnies to go with her recently bereaved female. A very happy ending all round :x

We've had a fair few rabbits bought into us via RSPCA Inspectors recently so we are busy on the intakes too :)

I'm so pleased that the rehoming has picked up, bonding is a tricky thing, especially a group of 4, so well done to all involved :)

I hope you continue to find more loving homes this month for more lucky bunnies :)

RSPCA Walsall are included in our February draw - good luck :)

Just a quick update from us here at RSPCA Walsall.

February was a very busy month for us - we found homes for 19 rabbits and 12 guinea pigs, which is fantastic! March has been busy so far too, we have had lots of rabbits come to us to choose their new friend, bonding takes up alot of volunteer time but is always worth it to know the bunnies get on.

We recently had 3 rabbits and 5 guinea pigs arrive in awful condition from an Inspector. They were removed from their home, all emaciated and in poor condition. Sadly one of the piggies has since passed away. It's so sad that this happens due to peoples negligence. They're eating us out of house and home at the moment and appear to be much happier than when they first arrived x

Wow that's amazing to hear so many have been re-homed during February, I hope this continues throughout March :)

I'm so sorry to hear about the rabbits and guinea pigs that arrived in such a sad state, especially about the one that passed away :(

RSPCA Walsall are entered into our March draw - good luck :)

Due to alot of recent changes Walsall RSPCA is slowly starting to get back on track. We do still have a large number of bunnies looking for homes. We are in desperate need of volunteers more than anything.

Just a quick update from us, we are still on the minimum number of volunteers and are really struggling, hopefully in the new year we will doing a big volunteer recruitment for trustees, foster carers and fundraisers. We are still rehoming rabbits and guinea pigs, and have 60+ in our care at the moment. We have been helping our local inspector with a house with excess of 200 bunnies and 180 guinea pigs. So lots to keep the few of us busy.

If anyone would like to volunteer to help, you don't have to live locally, we would be more than happy to have a chat with you.

Hopefully we will have a more positive update for you all soon.
