Sandy - JRTxChi - Surrey

We are searching for a special home for Sandy who is an approx 10 year old Chihuahua x Jack Russell.
She was owned by an older couple since a puppy but never went out for walks, hence she was very unsocialised when she arrived.
Initially she was very frightened of the other dogs, but as she settled a new side showed itself and although she is fine with some of the dogs here, any new arrivals or any dogs she meets on walks are greeted with a snap. She does have good recall, but will need to be kept onlead whilst round other dogs. Otherwise she will not stray far from her owner. As time goes by, this may improve, but for now, she does need to take one step at a time.
She therefore would be best placed as an only dog.
For the first three or four days of being in a new home, Sandy will be nervous and unsure. Her new home must be prepared to ignore her for this time and allow her time to approach you. She adores her cuddles, so when she feels brave enough to come to you, then the true affectionate, loving and extremely sweet girl will show herself.
Sandy has no confidence around children so we are looking for a child free environment.
Sandy cannot live with cats.
She can be left for short periods of time on her own and is clean in the home and not destructive.
Sandy did find a home a few years ago, but her owner had to go into an care home so she was returned to rescue.

Health issues - Sandy was diagnosed with Cushings Disease about 6 months ago. We have had various tests done and she has to have 30mg of Vetoryl (capsules) once a day to control this. She eats them in her food so they are very easy to administer.
Cushings Disease is a microscopic tumour in her pituatory gland and the pills control hormone levels produced.

She has now been fully vaccinated, microchipped, spayed, wormed and flea treated. She also had a dental on arrival.

Sandy will need an enclosed garden with minimum fence height of 4 foot all the way round with no escape holes.
She will need an owner who is experienced with scared and/or nervy dogs.

A homecheck will apply and a minimum adoption fee of £150 applies.
