Byron
DOB: March 2003

Byron is a Labrador who was purchased at 12 weeks old and lived in the same home all his life. At 6 months of age, he was diagnosed with elbow dysplasia and had surgery to help him.
Recently, his owners working hours had changed, meaning Byron was left for a long time each day and his previous owners could no longer afford to treat him, so stopped his painkillers which he needs for his joints.

Byron went to our vets, and was given medicine to help his ears as the left one was very dirty. He was also given medication to stop the pain in his joints and has had a course of a cartrophen injections. Byron needs daily painkillers for his joints, which cost between £20- 25 a month, depending on vets which the new owner will need to cover. He is sometimes stiff, but this is unsurprising considering his age.

Byron is a lovely dog. Like most Labradors, he is a friend to everyone and meets new people with a waggy tail. He loves attention and is happy to lie by your feet when you are sitting on the sofa. He just needs a quiet life, so could live with calm teenagers.

He is great with all other dogs and could easily live with a calm dog, male or female. He has no reaction to cats at all.

Although he is an older boy, he loves his walks, but these need to be short as he can't overdo it. He enjoys plodding around the field, and sniffing every blade of grass. He is a good boy on lead, but if he catches a scent, he will pull to get to it and he is fairly strong.

Being a Labrador, he loves his food, but its really important that the new owners don't overfeed him and this will add excess pressure on his joints.

Byron is fine being left, but as he is older, he needs to visit the garden often. We did have blood and urine tests done to rule out any old age issues, but luckily everything came back as normal. He could be left for 3 hours comfortably and is always clean overnight.

Byron has been neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and flea treated. We do ask for a minimum adoption fee of £150 for him
