Thistle is a 16 year old cat who was originally bought in to board with us through the business. Her owners had been moved into residential accommodation and it was a 'no pets allowed' agreement. The lady visited her weekly and spent time with her for about a year, but then was taken ill and sadly died. Her husband struggled for money, but when a lump appeared on her leg, had it tested and the result came back as cancerous.
The vet he used recommended euthanasia and so he booked her to be put to sleep a few days later. When we were told this, we were not happy with the vets diagnosis as Thistle still had a good quality of life and was eating, playing and enjoying attention. We offered for him to sign her over to the rescue so that we could get a second opinion and he agreed that the lump could be removed safely and that it was not time for her to die yet.
Thistle is going in for surgery on Wednesday 27th February so that her lump can be removed. She will have to go onto fluids due to her age. This is going to cost the rescue in excess of £500. We do not have an exact figure yet. Any funds raised will go towards her vet fee's.
After her operation she will be looking for a retirement home as an only cat.
