Re:large guinea rescue lots of pics!
We have been contacted by a BYB who is giving up and who has " about 100 " guinea pigs she wants help with
We are lucky in that we've had lots of offers of help but still 100...! watch this space!

Re: !00 Guinea pigs
Reminds me of when I volunteered at another rescue centre, we had an intake of something like 30 guineapigs... turned out to be a load of pregnant females... we had guineapigs coming out of our ears after that one.

Re: 100 Guinea pigs
Well Ange and I went to assess the place and
I'd guess it was more like 140- 150 plus..all sows likely to be pregnant as mixed sexes in each hutch
We took out 24 and are going back on Wedsnesday to get more
We have asked other rescues for help as we cannot cope with the numbers, taking into account it is likely to triple when they all give birth. We are having trouble finding rescues that neuter boars though and we want this to be the case.
Anyway here are some pics
PLEASE DO NOT SHARE THESE ANYWHERE ELSE..WE NEED TO BE ALLOWED BACK IN TO GET THE OTHERS OUT
We think the hay and food had been added just before we got there as it was on top of filth. Look at the partially bald sow. Many like that due to stress and vitamin definciency
the ages ranged from a few days up to 3 years. The sows had been constantly pregnant
The water bottles were filled with thick green or black slime
and again
We didn't take any of the bald mums as they had very young babies hanging on them and none were used to people. So we will take them on Weds when the babies have had 4 more days which should give them a better chance of surviving.
Pics of all the ones we took out..in total 24 so far
Elan sow
Jetta heavily pregnant sow
blurred pic of young sow Mazda
Young boar, Colt

Re: Re:large guinea rescue lots of pics!
I'm so glad that they've stopped breeding, although it's a little late
I hope you can rescue spaces for them all, it's so sad to see the conditions they live in, and the fact the sows have been continually pregnant, but I guess people don't see this when they go to a breeder They think they are getting something better than going to a rescue - shows you how wrong people can be!!!

Oh my goodness the conditions those poor piggies were in looks awful
Well done for getting them out, the ones you've got look so pretty, hope they can all find new homes or rescue spaces very soon.
